It would be difficult to find a major pop, rock, or hip-hop star more affable or humble than Austin Richard Post despite the fact that The Tiny Desk has hosted a number of them throughout the course of its more than 15-year history.
Post had the demeanour of a lottery winner who wouldn't even give himself credit for purchasing a ticket, whether he was bemoaning the condition of his singing voice, making light of his nerves, or simply sitting slack-jawed in amazement of the incredible band his team had put together for this night.
Post Malone was a pleasure to be around before, during, and after the performance. He also happened to bring some of the biggest pop hits from the twenty-first century:
Set-opener "Sunflower," for instance, has achieved an all-time high of eighteen platinum certifications from the RIAA since its release in 2018; in contrast, the singles "I Fall Apart" from 2017 and "Circles" from 2019 trail behind with only ten platinum certifications each.
This set's final song, "Enough Is Enough," has no such title, but give it time: It's a recent release—a song from Post Malone's new album Austin.
So take pleasure in this performance for what it is: one of the biggest artists in the world performing a few of the biggest songs in the world, each set to a beautiful arrangement.
Post Malone doesn't only seem humble; he also seemed startled by how amazing this Tiny Desk gig sounds.
